04-06 June 2010 - Concertgebouw - Brugge, Belgium
Concerts, Debats, Documentaries, Lectures
The Italian composer and cello virtuoso Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) spent most of his life in Spain, where he worked for illustrious patrons as the Infante Don Luis. Unfortunately it remains the ultimate chamber music composer too often overshadowed by contemporaries as Mozart and Haydn, though his work has a lot to offer. Time to Boccherini to care that he deserves! One weekend the Concertgebouw focuses the spotlight on his music and that of some contemporaries. Roel Dieltiens central figure and his Ensemble Explorations surround themselves with like minded musical Edding Quartet, El Concierto Español, La Real Cámara and the soprano Claron McFadden and Soledad Cardoso. Together they bring a nice selection of Boccherini's oeuvre, with musical discoveries and famous works as the Minuet, the Fandango and the Stabat Mater. In the margin of the Festival there is plenty to do, such as lectures, a debate, a documentary, an exhibition and even a tapas lunch. Immerse yourself in the musical world of Boccherini, where the big gesture gives way to subtlety and concentration.
